International Pet Travel To and From Saudi Arabia

Traveling internationally with pets can be an exciting experience, but it requires advance planning—especially when entering or leaving Saudi Arabia. Whether you’re relocating, going on vacation, or returning home, understanding the rules and requirements will ensure your pet travels safely and smoothly.

Entry Requirements Into Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has specific regulations designed to protect animal health and public safety. Pets entering the Kingdom need:

• A microchip that meets international standards.
• Updated vaccinations, especially rabies
• A health certificate issued by an accredited veterinarian, confirming the pet is healthy and fit for travel.
• An import permit issued by the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture.

Saudi Arabia does allow pets to arrive as accompanied baggage (i.e. on your flight booking), but many countries don’t allow pets to leave this way, so they may have to be booked separately as cargo. If your country of origin does allow accompanied travel with your pet you must check with your airline as they will have their own rules regarding carriers, documentation, and temperatures, so it’s important to check ahead of time.

Traveling Out of Saudi Arabia

When leaving the Kingdom, requirements vary depending on your destination. To leave Saudi Arabia your pet must have:

• A recent health certificate from a licensed vet.
• Valid vaccination records, some destinations will require additional treatments and tests, such as RNATT/Titre tests. 
• International Health Certificate issued by the Ministry of  Environment, Water and Agriculture.
• Export Permit issued by the Ministry of  Environment, Water and Agriculture.
• Depending on your destination  your pet may also require additional documents, and sometime quarantine on arrival. 

As with imports, Saudi Arabia allows pets to depart as accompanied baggage, but many countries do not allow pets to arrive this way, so they will have to be booked separately to travel as manifest cargo.
